Obituary for George C. Schaefer
George C. Schaefer, 97, of DeSoto and formerly of Frankfort, IL, passed away at 2:04 p.m. Sunday, April 12, 2015, at his son's residence in DeSoto, Illinois.
George was born on March 27, 1918, in Riverdale, Illinois, to George Schaefer and Anna (Sliga) Schaefer.
Mr. Schaefer was a retired window glazer.
He enjoyed watching race horses, working on his computer, and metal detecting.
George married Bernice Paska on June 6, 1939, and she preceded him in death on July 17, 2003.
He is survived by three children and their spouses George K. and Mary Schaefer of DeSoto, Chris and Thomas Ryan of Mokena, IL, and Kenneth and Cheryl Schaefer of Tinley Park, IL;
seven grandchildren, two step grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one grandson George Richard Schaefer, one brother Vernon Schaefer, and one sister Adeline Guertharz, and his parents.
His body will be cremated and a private memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Francis Care Animal Shelter, 6228 Country Club Road, Murphysboro, IL 62966. For more information, please visit www.pettettfuneralhome.com.
