Obituary for Louise Octavia Lecocq (Delassus)

Louise Octavia  Lecocq (Delassus)
Louise Octavia Lecocq reunited with her husband in heaven on July 5, 2015. She passed into glory after a short illness, but Louise lived a long and fulfilling life.

She was born on January 23, 1921 to Germain and Clarice (Cousins) Delassus in Pana, Illinois. She united in marriage to the love of her life, Paul Lecocq, on July 20, 1942 in Pana. Paul and Louise lived out their lives as examples of love and laughter for 66 years to all who knew them. He preceded her in death in February 18, 2009.

Louise and Paul reared two sons, Daniel and Jerry, during their time in Washington, Illinois, where they were active members of the Emergency Services Defense Association (ESDA) and Louise worked as a telephone operator for General Telephone. Louise was active in sports: softball in her younger years, golf into her 80s and bowling into her 90s. She was also an avid sports fan; she loved watching golf, Bradley Braves basketball and St. Louis Cardinals baseball. She also enjoyed watching birds out her window, especially cardinals. During her time in Washington, Louise was active in Home Extension, where she went 50 years without missing a meeting. Above all else, Louise loved family.

Along with being a dedicated wife and mother of two sons, Louise was a loving aunt, generous grandmother, and proud great grandmother. Louise was preceded in death by her husband Paul, son Jerry, and sister Germaine (Delassus) Scott.

She leaves behind a legacy of family who loved her deeply, including her son and daughter-in-law Daniel and Judith of Murphysboro;

daughter-in-law Janis Lecocq of Lake Villa;

two grandchildren and their spouses Jennifer and Ken Rhude of Carbondale and Paul and Donna Lecocq of Georgetown, Texas;

niece Linda Scott of Champaign; and great grandchildren Alexandra Louise Rhude and Marc and Benjamin Lecocq.

A celebration of Louise's life will take play at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 2015 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Murphysboro. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday July 8 at Pettett Funeral Home in Murphysboro. The family asks in lieu of flowers that donations be made in Louise's honor to the St. Andrew's Quilters, a cause Louise supported for many years.
