Obituary for Margaret G. Canada (Blumenstock)
Margaret G. Canada, 92, of Murphysboro, passed away at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, September 16, 2015, at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro.
Margaret was born on February 19, 1923, in Vergennes, Illinois, to Fred Henry Blumenstock and Harriett Ellen (Gulledge) Blumenstock.
Before she was married, she had worked at the Overall Factory in Murphysboro.
Mrs. Canada was a member of the United Church of Christ in DuQuoin.
Margaret married Maurice J. Canada on November 23, 1945, in DuQuoin, and he preceded her in death on March 27, 2007.
When they moved from Kentucky to Illinois, Margaret was the typical farmer's wife, where she fed the calves and pigs, while her husband did the farming.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers and eight sisters.
She is survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews. Her niece Norma Fager and Norma's daughters Carol Bastien and Donna Crow were Margaret's care givers for several years.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, September 20, 2015, in Pettett Funeral Home with Rev. Dennis Fager officiating, and burial at Murdale Gardens of Memory. Friends may call from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Masonic Children's Home in Murphysboro.
