Obituary for Pauline Verbal (Davis)

Pauline  Verbal (Davis)
Pauline (Davis) Verbal, 91, of Murphysboro, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Thursday, October 22, 2015, at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro, with her loving family at her side.

Pauline was born on May 10, 1924, in Pomona, Illinois, to Harrison J. Davis and Leona (Todd) Davis.

She married James V. Verbal on July 11, 1945, in Murphysboro. They shared seventy years together, that was celebrated in July with many family and friends. Her husband James survives.

Other survivors include three children Janet Verbal, Darrell Verbal, and Marsha Verbal, all of Murphysboro;

two grandchildren Shawn Baker of Dallas/Fort Worth, TX, Tiffany (Hines) Gearhart and her husband Michael Gearhart of Murphysboro;

two great grandchildren Natalie Gearhart and Clark Gearhart, both of Murphysboro;

several nieces and nephews Gloria (Terry) Dokken and Albert Ray Miller all of Carterville, Harold (Betty) Allard of Murphysboro, Dorothy (Bill) Imhoff of The Villages, FL, Shelby Fleming of St. Louis, MO, Jim (Sharon) Fielding of FL, Joe Davis, David (Joyce) Tuttle, Ronnie (Jamie) Tuttle, Mark Tuttle, Kevin (Tammy) Tuttle, and Valdeana Sorensen, all of Murphysboro; Nancy Sadler of Ontario, Canada, Charles "Buddy" (Iris) Eastwood of Oregon, Brenda (John) Hammond of Springfield, Rhonda Shands and Rick (Barbara) Verbal, all of Murphysboro and many more great nieces and great nephews;

one brother in law Joseph (Shirley) Verbal of TX and one sister in law Ruth Verbal of Murphysboro.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one infant granddaughter Shannon Kaye Baker, four sisters and their husbands Verna and Willis Hagler, Ida Mae and Albert Miller, Lucille and Lloyd Fielding, and Betty and Bob Tuttle, one brother and his wife Lester and Wanda Davis, an uncle Floyd Davis, two sister in laws and their husbands Eileen and Eldron Boyer, Leona and Charles Allen Eastwood, four brother in laws Orvel Verbal and his wife Helen Verbal, Charlie Verbal and his wife Mary Verbal, Gene Verbal and Val Verbal, and one nephew Robbie Tuttle and his wife Helen Tuttle.

Mrs. Verbal was a member of the First Baptist Church in Murphysboro. She loved reading the Bible daily and especially loved the book of Psalms.

Pauline retired as a nursing assistant from the Jackson County Nursing Home in Murphysboro, where she showed great compassion and caring to the elderly and infirmed. She was a former member of the Jackson County Nursing Home Ladies Auxiliary.

Pauline's family wishes to thank Sandy Gooden of Hurst, IL her special friend, companion, and homemaker with whom she shared many enjoyable years.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 26, 2015, at Pettett Funeral Home with Rev. Shaker Samuel and Rev. Charles Allen officiating and burial will be at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday and Monday until 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
