Obituary for George D. Miller
George D. Miller, 81, of Murphysboro, passed away at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at the Manor Court of Carbondale.
George was born on November 30, 1934, in Jackson County, Illinois, to William Miller and Octavia (Cheatham) Miller.
In the late 1950's, he served in the U.S. Army and the National Guard.
Mr. Miller was a salesman and then department manager of both Montgomery Ward for twenty three and half years and Sears for eleven years, while the stores were in Murphysboro, and then went back to Montgomery Ward in Carbondale for five and half years.
George was a member of the Elks Lodge for fifty five years, and a member of the American Legion Post # 127, and former member of the Eagles Lodge.
He married Brenda Brannon on February 22, 1964, in Murphysboro, Illinois, and she preceded him in death on July 8, 2012.
George is survived by one sister Ethel Huffman, and one brother Ernest Miller and his wife Pauline Miller, all of Murphysboro;
and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, three brothers, and his parents.
Gravesite services will be held at 11:15 a.m. Friday, April 15, 2016, at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park with Rev. Shaker Samuel officiating. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. at Pettett Funeral Home. For more information, please visit www.pettettfuneralhome.com.
