Vivian R. Murphy (Adkins)
Vivian R. Murphy, 86, passed away at 11:06 p.m. Sunday, April 24, 2016, at her residence in Murphysboro.
Vivian was born on March 9, 1930, in Murphysboro, to Jeff Adkins and Madge (Jones) Adkins.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Murphy was a member of the First Baptist Church in Murphysboro, where she was the head of the Social Committee for several years. She was a member of the V.F.W. Post # 7190 Ladies Auxiliary and a member of Modern Woodmen. She had given piano lessons for many years and played the piano at church on Wednesday nights and for Sunday School.
Vivian married Harry T. Murphy, Sr. on June 30, 1947, in Piggott, Arkansas, and he preceded her in death on May 3, 2013.
She is survived by three children Harry T. Murphy, Jr. and his wife Doreen Murphy of Springfield, IL, Ruth Cook and her husband Pat Cook and Frances Jane Reiman and her husband Ed Reiman, all of Murphysboro;
five grandchildren and two step grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister Lora Renfro, one brother Donald Adkins, and her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Shaker Samuel officiating and burial will be at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, the American Diabetes Association, or the Alzheimer's Association.
