Obituary for David W. Lee

David W.  Lee
David W. Lee, 62, of Murphysboro, passed away at 5:33 p.m. Thursday, August 18, 2016, at his residence in Murphysboro.

David was born on September 12, 1953, in Murphysboro, to Claude and Hazel (Goodknight) Lee. As a child he attended the old Washington School and then the Murphysboro Township High School.

He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local # 318, where he had worked twenty years at the Cora Coal Terminal in Rockwood. He then went to work for Menard Correctional Center, where he retired after twenty years.

Mr. Lee was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Murphysboro.

David was a great outdoorsman and he loved hunting, fishing, and camping. He loved doing all of these with his grandsons. He loved going to watch his grandchildren's baseball, basketball, softball, volleyball games and track meets, which kept him very busy. He was most proud of his children.

He leaves behind his wife of forty-three years, Faye (Herring), whom he married on June 30, 1973, in Murphysboro.

his daughter Dava (Quent) Davis of Murphysboro, son Brandon (Christy) Lee of DuQuoin, daughter Mackenzie (A.J.) Hernandez of Murphysboro, and son Jeffrey Lee at home;

eleven grandchildren Landen Harris and Mallorie Harris, La Kota Davis, Braden Lee, David Lee, Jacob Lee and Madison Lee, Parker Johnson and Aurelia Hernandez, Violet Hernandez, and Orion Hernandez;

other survivors include Uncle Sparty Lee of Murphysboro, his brother Claude Lee, Jr. and his wife Cindy Lee of Cape Girardeau, MO, one sister Claudean Miller and her husband Al Miller of Chicago; lots of nieces and nephews;

brother in law Charles Robinson, brother in law Ron Herring and his wife Grace Herring, sister in laws Ruth Vestal and her husband Tom Vestal, Alberta Reiman, Ina Herring, and Kim McRoberts, and brother in law Dean Barnett;

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Michael Lee and Sheldon Lee, and sister Barbara Robinson, one son in infancy, his mother and father in law Mary and John Herring, his brother in laws Ben Herring and Don Reiman, and sister in law Elbina Burnett.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Monday, August 22, 2016, at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Josemon Hoem officiating and burial at Murdale Gardens of Memory. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Pettett Funeral Home and from 10 to 12 noon Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran School.
