Obituary for Minnie M. Hooks (Riggio)

Minnie M.  Hooks (Riggio)
Minnie M. Hooks, 98, of Murphysboro, passed away at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at the Herrin Hospital in Herrin, Illinois.

Minnie was born on December 1, 1917, in Murphysboro, to Vito Riggio and Domenica (Cali) Riggio.

She was a homemaker but for many years she had an in home day care. She was very close to her grandkids. She enjoyed playing the organ and gardening. She loved her pets including her dog, her cats, her birds, and her fish.

Mrs. Hooks was member of the St. Andrew Catholic Church and St. Andrew Altar Society in Murphysboro.

Minnie married William Monroe Hooks on June 7, 1946, in Murphysboro, and he preceded her in death on April 12, 1965.

She is survived by 3 children Rita Phillips of Murphysboro, Bill Hooks and his wife Nancy Hooks of Anna, and Janet Robinson of Murphysboro;

four grandchildren Galen Hooks, Lindsey Houston, Jason Phillips, and Michael Robinson;

eight great grandchildren Gavin Hooks, Bailey Hooks, Zaidey Hooks, Jaicey Hooks, Nora Houston, Seth Houston, Brady Phillips, and Bryce Phillips;

one sister Frances Rendleman of Red Bud, IL;

and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers Thomas, Tony, and Vito Riggio, four sisters Josephine Riggio, Clara Schiro, Magdelen Stevens, and Mary Kilby, and her parents.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 28, 2016, at St. Andrew Catholic Church with Father Gary Gummersheimer officiating and burial at St. Andrew Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Andrew Church, St. Andrew Altar Society, or St. Frances CARE Animal Shelter.
