Obituary for Charles O. Bacon

Charles O.  Bacon
Charles O. Bacon, 91, of Cobden, passed away a 6:50 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at the Illinois Veteran’s Home in Quincy, Illinois.

Charles was born on February 6, 1926, in Marshall, Missouri, to Carl Owen Bacon and Laura (Moore) Bacon.

He had served in Occupied Japan in the U.S. Army Air-Corp at the end of World War II.

Charles was a retired wire chief with the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph in California.

Mr. Bacon was a very active member and a choir member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cobden. He was a lifetime member of the Carroll P. Foster V.F.W. Post # 3455 in Anna.

He rode his Harley--a Heritage Softail--until he was 87 years old. He loved his dogs and his kitties.

Charles married JoLee Coomes on February 8, 1948, at St. Mary’s Church in El Centro, CA, and she preceded him in death on May 6, 1996.

Charles is survived by two daughters Sherry Haddick and her husband Mark Haddick of Cobden and Laura Bacon of Somerset, KY;

six grandchildren Christopher Khan of El Centro, CA, Anthony (Leila) Khan of Las Vegas, NV, JoLee (Troy) Martin of Science Hill, KY, Ian McClellan of Science Hill, KY, Matthew (Michelle) Haddick of Waterloo, and Adam (Courtney) Haddick of Murphysboro;

seven great grandchildren Kristina Khan, Olivia Khan, Nicholas Martin, Christian Martin, Sydney Haddick, Camille Haddick, and Alianna Haddick;

and five nephews.

Mr. Bacon is preceded in death by one infant daughter Kathleen Marie Bacon, two sisters Wilma Jeffers, and Doris Wilkenson, his parents, and step mother Estelle (Macon) Bacon.

A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cobden with Father Uriel Salamanca and Father Federico Higuera officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Carroll P. Foster Post # 3455 of the V.F.W. of Anna and the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honor Team of Marion at St. Joseph Cemetery, Cobden. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church and a rosary will conclude the visitation. Memorials may be made for masses, the American Diabetes Association or American Cancer Society.
