Obituary for George N. Launius
George N. Launius, 84, of Murphysboro, passed away at 12:50 a.m. Monday, March 13, 2017, at his residence in Murphysboro.
George was born on February 23, 1933, in Cobden, Illinois to George Wilson Launius and Cordelia F. (Davis) Launius.
He had served for twenty years and two months in the U.S. Army and then worked as a truck driver after his military service.
Mr. Launius was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Murphysboro.
George married Lizzie Crane on December 16, 1954, in Murphysboro and she survives.
Other survivors include four daughters Judy Williams of Murphysboro, Joyce Crispin and her husband Charles Crispin, Jr. of Ina, Debbie Gallegos and Mary Launius, both of Murphysboro;
twelve grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren;
and one sister Eva Launius of Layette, GA.
He was preceded in death by one son David Launius, one granddaughter, one great grandson, three son in laws, three brothers, two sisters and his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 16, 2017, at Pettett Funeral Home with Rev. Dean Akins officiating and entombment will be at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park with military services conducted by the Paul Stout American Legion Post # 127 of Murphysboro.
