Obituary for Glenn L. Schemonia

Glenn L. Schemonia, 84, of Pomona, passed away at 9:40 p.m. Thursday, June 1, 2017, at Arch Nursing Home in Energy, Illinois.

Glenn was born on November 14, 1932, in Cora City, Illinois, to William Schemonia and Beatrice (Qualls) Schemonia.

Glenn worked for $ 1.00 a day when he was eleven years old. He loved to sing, he always liked dogs, and he raised cows especially his steer Buddy. In his younger years he had been a stock car driver. He drove heavy equipment and worked on that same equipment to keep it running. So he thought he might as well own his own business. He was the former owner of Glenn's Auto Repair in Murphysboro.

He married Cora "Dot" Baseden on August 15, 1950, in Murphysboro, and she survives.

Other survivors include seven living children and their spouses Larry and Tammy Schemonia of Alto Pass, Jane Pinkston of Murphysboro, Brenda and Bob Marfio of Murphysboro, John and Bev Schemonia of Pomona, Frank and Pam Schemonia of Murphysboro, Doris and Drew Stetson of Duluth, MN, and Andy Schemonia of Murphysboro;

one son in law Jim King of Pomona and one daughter in law Alice Schemonia;

twenty grandchildren, twenty four great grandchildren and special friends Garth McBride and Sarah Offer;

He was preceded in death by three sons and one daughter Chuck Schemonia, Kenny Schemonia, Nancy King, and Jimmy Dean Schemonia;

four brothers, four sisters and his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 5, 2017, at Pettett Funeral Home with Rev. Davy Miller officiating and burial at Jerusalem Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Glenn had asked that there be no flowers for his services, so in lieu of flowers, please make memorials to Jerusalem Cemetery.
