Obituary for Mary Marie Varner (Clutts)

Mary Marie  Varner (Clutts)
Mary Marie Varner, 69, loving mother, grandma, and great-grandma stepped into paradise to meet Jesus at 2:25 p.m. Friday, June 16, 2017, at Carbondale, Illinois, surrounded by her daughters and friends.

Mary was born March 2, 1948 in Creal Springs, Illinois, to Wayne and Ernestine (Adams) Clutts. After moving through a number of foster homes, she eventually grew up in the home of Oscar and Rachel Easton. After Oscar’s death Rachel remarried Fred Cross, who helped to provide for Mary.

On August 1, 1966, Mary married Gary Lee Varner and had two daughters. After their divorce, she met the love of her life, Thomas Morris with whom she spent twenty-five years together. Mary was a homemaker and in her later years loved babysitting, shopping, and eating out with her daughters.

She is survived by her daughters: Laura Varner (Shorty Kelley), Diana and Keith Keipp;

four grandchildren: Paula Stuthers (Bernel Smith), Ray and Jessica Stuthers, Erik Stuthers (Stephanie Glodo), Bostyn Keipp;

seven great-grandchildren: Jaylie Brannon, Mya and Ayrianna Smith, Gracie and Allie Raye Stuthers, Braydan Reames, and Elsie Stuthers, all of Murphysboro;

one sister Pat Bone of Sterling, CO and family;

one brother Norman Ray Clutts, whereabouts unknown;

one foster sister, Kathy Bratton of Murphysboro;

children of Tom, Mary’s companion, Maretta, Debbie, Kelly, Rhonda, and Jeff.

She also leaves behind many dear friends, who became her extended family. They are Danny and Stephanie Crow and their children Chelsey and Skyler; Bill and Angela Porter and their children Nessa and Jared; Pat and Mindy Byram and their son Gavin; Gene and Della Martin; Cindy Murray; Rodney and Brenda Williamson and their two sons Tyler and Blake; and Sue Graff and her granddaughters Kloee and Kailee Ward. She loved each of them as her own.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Edward Dale Clutts, twin infant siblings Robert and Geraldine Clutts, her parents, foster parents, and one great grandson.

A special thank you to Shelly Moutria for her love and support, that she has given to our family.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 24, 2017, at Pettett Funeral Home with Rick Sutton officiating and burial at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 10 a.m to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Midwest Adoption Agency, 2860 S River Rd 450, Des Plaines, IL 60018. “God loaned us an angel and even though this world was harsh to her at times, she endured it the best that she could. Her family and friends were blessed to have known her before God took her home.”

Mom we love you so much! You are now with your beloved Tom.
