Obituary for Gerald "Spoony" Maurice Hartline
Gerald "Spoony" M. Hartline, 80, of Murphysboro, passed away at 8:12 p.m. on Friday, June 23, 2017, at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro.
Gerald was born on August 15, 1936, in Jonesboro, Illinois to Roy Lee Hartline and Winifred Estelle (Walker) Hartline.
He worked in coal mine construction and retired as a lead millwright.
Mr. Hartline was a member of the United Mine Workers Association and a former member of the I.B.E.W.
He enjoyed fishing and gardening, and for the last few years, he canned the vegetables from the garden. He tinkered, built and worked on thing that he could.
Gerald married Sharon Bastien on July 13, 1957, in Murphysboro, and she survives.
Other survivors include four children Pamela Reynolds and her husband Randy Reynolds, both of Murphysboro, Cynthia Johnson and Erick Schwartz, both of Harrisburg, William Patrick Hartline of Murphysboro, and Elizabeth Ann Needham of Elkville;
ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren;
and two sisters Trevetta Wunderlin of Lutz, FL and Patricia Lee Tripp of Trussville, AL.
He was preceded in death by one daughter Darlene Faye Hartline, one great grandson, and his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at Pettett Funeral Home with Rev. Donald Bastien officiating, and burial at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Murphysboro Food Pantry or to the American Heart Association.
