The Rev. Franklyn A.  Schroeder
The Rev. Franklyn A. Schroeder, 78, passed away at 11:55 a.m. Saturday, September 16, 2017, at Hurricane Creek Assisted Living in Herrin, Illinois.

Franklyn A. Schroeder was born on January 21, 1939, in Berlin, Wisconsin, the son of Oscar and Eleanor (Carpenter) Schroeder. He was a graduate of Wartburg College (1960) and Wartburg Seminary (1964). Franklyn married Marlene Heise on June 9, 1962 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell, IA. He was ordained to the ministry of Word and Sacrament on June 14, 1964, at First Lutheran Church, Poy Sippi, WI. He served as pastor of Northfield Lutheran Church, Northfield, WI; Our Savior’s Lutheran and Upper Pigeon Creek Lutheran , Hixton, WI; St. John Lutheran, Edgar, WI; Bethel Lutheran, Oconto Falls, WI; Our Redeemer’s Lutheran, Suring, WI; Scandinavia Lutheran and Peace Lutheran, Scandinavia, WI; Zion Lutheran, Shipman, IL; St John Lutheran, Dorchester, IL; Mt. Calvary Lutheran, De Soto, IL; First Lutheran in Murphysboro; Christ Lutheran in Harrisburg, IL.

Franklyn enjoyed crafts, including woodworking and weaving. In his retirement, he and Marlene sold his handwoven rugs and placemats at craft shows throughout southern Illinois. He also made hundreds of yarn hats to be distributed to children in need.

Franklyn is survived by his wife Marlene; sister Rhoda Olsen; daughters Joy Schroeder (John Birkner), Sarah Schroeder Maroof (Abdul Maroof), Karen Schroeder-Tutko (David Tutko); grandchildren Patrick Tutko (Aubrey Tutko), Benjamin Tutko, Winter Tutko, Sitara Maroof, Zarah Maroof; great grandchildren Iman Jon Tutko, Aunika Tutko, Jahan Tutko, Loralei Tutko, Oliver Tutko; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in DeSoto, with Bishop S. John Roth preaching and the Rev. Melissa Waterman presiding. Visitation will be from 5 to 6:45 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Private committal services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday morning at De Soto Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 114 S Oak St., De Soto Illinois, 62924-1526 and to Wartburg Seminary (scholarships for students), 333 Wartburg Place, Dubuque, IA 52004.
