Rowena E. Baltzell, 84, of Murphysboro, passed away at 12:16 a.m. Sunday, September 24, 2017, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Rowena was born on May 13, 1933, in Anna, Illinois, to Leon Wanstreet and Juanita (Highland) Wanstreet.

She was a homemaker and she did a lot of sewing and making crafts. She raised miniature dachshunds with "doxins4you".

She was raised Catholic.

Mrs. Baltzell was a member of the American Legion Post # 127 Ladies Auxiliary and the V.F.W. Post # 7190 Ladies Auxiliary, both of Murphysboro.

Rowena married Billy Jack Staples on November 28, 1952, and he preceded her in death on November 11, 1994, and she later married Fount Baltzell and he preceded her in death on November 3, 2003.

She is survived by two children Tina Tennison and her husband Gary Tennison of DuQuoin and John Staples and his companion Ingrid Reyes of Alto Pass;

four grandchildren Shannon Clark of Peoria, Crystal Kitchen and her boyfriend Scott Degenhardt of Pinckneyville, Jennifer Melvin and her husband T. J. Melvin of DuQuoin, and Savannah Mae Staples of Mulkeytown;

and five great grandchildren Austin Hagston and his fiancée Aireal Collins of Pinckneyville, Dalton Day, Mercedes Day, and Dedrick Melvin, all of DuQuoin, and Brooklyn Clark, of Benton.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Her body will be cremated and gravesite services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, September 28, 2017, at Walker Hill Cemetery at Grand Tower with Father Gary Gummersheimer officiating. Everyone is to meet at the cemetery. For more information, please visit www.pettettfuneralhome.com.
