Obituary for Freddie Lorene Ellis

Freddie Lorene  Ellis
Freddie Lorene Ellis, 77, of Murphysboro, passed away as a result of an explosion and fire at his barn near his residence in Murphysboro.

Freddie was born on December 7, 1939, in Murphysboro, to Dewey Ellis and Ina Bell (Basden) Ellis.

He had served in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Ellis attended the Lighthouse Apostolic Church in Murphysboro. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 127.

Until his retirement seven years ago, he owned and operated Ellis Tree Service. He started working in his teens and was a workaholic when it came to his tree service. He loved his family and did everything he could do for his family! He also liked his cows.

He married Doris Parks on August 13, 1964, in Benton, Illinois, and she survives.

Other survivors include three children Keith Ellis of Ava, Melody (Jeff) Hill of Murphysboro, and Lorna (Timothy) of Ava;

four grandchildren Amber, Ashly, Christopher, and Jeremy;

five great grandchildren Brooklyn, Phalin, Brylyn, Nevaeh, and Nora Jean, and Grayson on the way;

two brothers Leonard (Mary) Ellis of O'Fallon, IL and Robert (Joyce) Ellis of Murphysboro;

one sister Viola (Bill) Fox of Murphysboro;

two brothers in law Jesse (Goldie) Parks of Fairfield, and Bill (Phyllis) Parks of Thompsonville;

two sisters in law Dora McCormick of Lockport and Sheila Wece of West Frankfort; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters Beulah Clover, Lena Fruits and Freida Smith, one brother in infancy Freeman Ellis, his parents, one brother in law Robert Parks, and one sister in law Frances Pearce.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at Pettett Funeral Home with Rev. William Elliott officiating and burial at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park with military services conducted by the Paul Stout American Legion Post # 127.
