Obituary for Ruth Ann Cook (Murphy)

Ruth Ann Cook, 63, of Murphysboro, passed away at 8:40 p.m. on Sunday, October 22, 2017, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

Ruth was born on April 16, 1954, in Murphysboro, to Harry Murphy, Sr. and Vivian Ruth (Adkins) Murphy.

She had worked for thirty years at SIU-Carbondale and retired as an office manager.

Mrs. Cook was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Murphysboro, and a member of the American Legion Post # 127 Ladies Auxiliary.

Ruth Ann loved to knit and still did some ceramics. She was a puppy rescuer.

She married Ronald "Pat" Cook on December 13, 1975, in Murphysboro, and he survives.

Other survivors include two children Patrick Ryan Cook and his wife Victoria Cook of San Diego, CA and Emily Cook and her partner Tara Cooper of Murphysboro;

four grandchildren Garrett Cook of Rockport, TX, Hunter Cook of San Diego, CA, and Jamie Cooper and Stephanie Cooper both of Carterville;

one sister and brother in law Frances and Ed Reiman of Murphysboro;

one brother and sister in law Harry Murphy, Jr. and Doreen Murphy of Springfield, IL;

one brother in law and his wife Mike and Sue Cook of O'Fallon, IL; and two nieces and three nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 12 noon Monday, October 30, 2017, at St. Andrew Catholic Church with Father Gary Gummersheimer officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 12 noon at the church.
