Obituary for
Jerry Wougamon
Jerry Wougamon, 69, of Murphysboro, passed away at his residence in Gorham, at 11:27 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2018.
Jerry was born on November 14, 1948, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Jake Wougamon and Anita (Hightower) Wougamon.
He had owned and operated the Veach Gas Station in Murphysboro, worked as a mechanic, worked in the maintenance department of Tuck Tape, and was a trapper for the Levy District in Jacob, Illinois.
Jerry built and flew larger model airplanes and a was a member of the Southern Illinois Chapter of the Academy of Model Aeronautics. He was an avid crappie fisherman and fished in local and regional tournaments.
He married Charlene Chapman on July 13, 1968, in DeSoto, Missouri, and she survives in Gorham.
Other survivors include two children Jeri Phillips and her husband Henry Phillips of Murphysboro, and Jake Wougamon and his fiancee Michelle Korando;
two grandchildren Nita Wougamon and Micah Wougamon, both of Carbondale;
three sisters and one brother Rettie (Wougamon) Thurman, Henry Jake Wougamon, Clarline (Wougamon) Jennings, and Reba Jo (Wougamon) Emeterio;
and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister Virginia (Wougamon) Horn, one brother Cloys Ira Wougamon, and his parents.
