Our Heritage

From 1919 to 1929, Mr. F. C. Thieme operated the funeral home and the location was moved to the present 1418 South Street address.

Then Mr. Meyer became the owner of the funeral home and offered his services to the community from June 4, 1929 until June 1, 1949. At which time, Orville Denny purchased the funeral home and it became known as the Meyer-Denny Funeral Home. Different people have commented that they set their clock by the one infront of the funeral home.

In 1964, Gene Pettett became associated with the funeral home. On January 1, 1971, Gene and Cynthia Pettett purchased the funeral home and it has since been known as Pettett Funeral Home.

Since February of 1984, Miss Teresa Basinger has been affiliated with the funeral home, and she purchased the funeral home from the Pettett's in February of 1991. The following year, the front stairs were changed and a new ramp was added to make the funeral home more accessible for those who are physically challenged.

Due to the deterioration of the former Centinenary Methodist Church, it was torn down and has become the parking lot for Pettett Funeral Home. At the corner of 14th and South Streets, we have a marquee in which we place the funeral services and visitation of those loved ones that have died.

Some people have told us that they no longer take the newspaper, or others, on their way to and from work, come by to see the arrangements.

In the fall of 2006, we closed in the east side of the funeral home and added a new digital sign.  The digital sign allows us to display more information on whom we are serving and the funeral times and locations.

As time continues, we have tried to make changes to the funeral home for the benefit of the families that we serve. That is another reason why we have this website. In case, you no longer take the newspaper, or you can't come by and see our sign, you can find out the funeral arrangements from our website.

We realize how important the funeral home is to you and your family and we, also, try to improve our facilities to better serve you.
