Eileen Higgerson, 92, formerly of Rockwood, passed away at 3:10 a.m. Sunday, September 20, 2015, in her residence at Greenville, Illinois.

Marjorie Eileen Higgerson was born on February 23, 1923, in Murphysboro, to Jewell and Edna (Moore) Travillian.

She had worked at several places when she and her family lived at Dupo. She worked at the A & P Warehouse, Englander Mattress Company, and as a cook at the Dobbs' Restaurant.

Mrs. Higgerson was a member of the Abundant Life Fellowship in Murphysboro, and a former member of the Murphysboro Senior Citizens.

She was a great cook and took care of everyone kids in the neighborhood. She made cakes for birthdays, weddings, and anniversaries. Her husband bought her a hair clippers and she cut all of her children's and the neighborhood kids' hair.

Eileen married Joseph Wesley Higgerson, Jr. on July 7, 1938, in St. Louis, Missouri, and he preceded her in death on November 23, 2014.

She is survived by four children JoAnn Rokita and her husband Don Rokita of Greenville, Ernest Higgerson, Sr. and Annette Higgerson of Dupo, Robert Higgerson and his wife Joyce Higgerson of Jacksonville, FL, and Joseph Wesley Higgerson, III and his wife Cheryl Higgerson of Chester;

twenty two grandchildren, forty two great grandchildren and forty great great grandchildren;

a half brother Robert Travillian, Valdosta, GA

She was preceded in death by one daughter in law Beverly Higgerson, one grandson Danny Herndon, one granddaughter Katie Durbin, one great grandson, and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 26, 2015, at Abundant Life Fellowship in Murphysboro, where friends may call from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church. Memorials may be made to Abundant Life Fellowship. For more information, please visit www.pettettfuneralhome.com.
