Virginia Ann Lowe
Virginia Ann Lowe, 65, of Murphysboro, passed away at 11:55 p.m. Thursday, October 22, 2015, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale, Illinois.
Virginia was born on September 14, 1950, in Lafayette, Indiana, to Edmund W. and Elsie (Traynor) Lowe.
She had a Master's Degree from the University of Oregon and a Master's Degree in English from the Indiana University. For a year, she had worked as a potter. She was a writer, editor and a teacher. For the past ten years since her husband's death she lived in Istanbul, Turkey and wrote a column in the English newspaper, along with owning a pizza parlor and a coffee shoppe.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Murphysboro.
Virginia was married to Robert C. Jacobs, who preceded her in death on June 8, 2004.
She is survived by two step sons Aaron Jacobs who is in the U. S. Air Force and Matthew Jacobs and several step grandchildren;
one sister Veronica Skinner of Albany, NY;
one nephew Nicholas Lowe of Melrose, Mass., and two nieces Claire Lowe of Boston, Mass. and Eleanor Skinner of Albany, NY.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Henry A. Lowe.
Her body will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at 11a.m. Wednesday, December 9, 2015, at the United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Gilbert officiating. Foe more information, please visit
