Obituary for Betty Jane Rains (Cauble)

Betty Jane  Rains (Cauble)
Betty Jane Rains, 81, of Chester, passed away at 11:53 p.m. Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at the Memorial Hospital in Chester.

Betty was born on February 3, 1935, in Pomona Township, Illinois, to Robert James Cauble and Helen (Clover) Cauble.

She took care of her home and raised her children. She was a dog lover and especially loved her dog, Gilmore. She was an artist and enjoyed painting. She also liked to play games on her computer and she was very good at Bookworm.

Betty married Earl E. Rains, Jr. on December 31, 1955, in Alcorn, Mississippi, and he preceded her in death on December 30, 2001.

She is survived by five children and their spouses, Bobby and Michelle Rains of Chester, Michael and Nancy Rains of Ellis Grove, Lisa Knowles and Andy and Sarah Rains, all of Chester, and Becky and Brian Batteau of Murphysboro;

thirteen grandchildren James Robert Rains, Brandon Rains, Kalin Rains, Brent Rains, Korey Rains, Michael Rains, Jr., Melissa Coffey, William Knowles, Matthew Rains, Nichole Deppe, Christy Jo Barnett, Stephanie Eitzenhefer, and Steven Batteau;

eight great grandchildren Nathaniel Rains, Braelyn Rains, Riley Rains, Caleb Coffey, Nicholas Coffey, Landon Eitzenhefer, Nolan Eitzenhefer, Xavier Barnett, and one on the way to be named Heidi;

two sisters and brother in laws Charlotte and Webb Martin and Theresa and Larry Jolly, all of DuQuoin;

and two brothers and sister in laws Robert and Betty Cauble of Pomona and Carl and Cathy Cauble of Murphysboro.

She was preceded in death by one son Donald Rains and her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pettett Funeral Home with Rev. Rick McNeely and burial at Jerusalem Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
