Obituary for Ruth Ann Sarensen (Clough)
Ruth Ann (Clough) Sarensen, 75, of Murphysboro, passed away at 4:20 a.m. Saturday, January 14, 2017, peacefully at her home in Murphysboro.
Ruth Ann was born on January 11, 1942, to Theron and Barbara "Hazel" (Schmellmyer) Clough. She married Jerry Lee Sarensen of Murphysboro on November 23, 1973. They were married forty three years and he survives.
Ruth Ann retired from St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in 2003. She loved to bake, sew, and spend time with her family. Christmas meals, Easter egg hunts, and birthday parties were some of her favorite activities throughout the years. Ruth Ann enjoyed crossword puzzles, swimming, and playing cards. She also like painting and game shows, especially the Wheel of Fortune. She never turned down the opportunity to watch her grandkids playball, and even traveled as far as Texas to watch, or to visit at Cindy B's restaurant with friends. Ruth Ann was a life long member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Murphysboro.
She is survived by three daughters Robin Payne of Sesser, Becky (Scott) Kemp and Chelle Sarensen, all of Murphysboro;
four grandchildren Katelyn Kemp (Jesse Elder), Maddie Kemp, all of Murphysboro, Shelby Payne of Nashville, TN and Dustin Payne of Sesser;
three great grandchildren Khloe, Korbin and Daxton Elder, all of Murphysboro;
one sister Camilla Rose (Bob Korando) of Murphysboro; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and three sisters.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 21, 2017, at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Murphysboro, where there will be a visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
