Print
Gladys Belle McLaughlin, 96, of Murphysboro, passed away at 11:20 a.m. Monday, September 25, 2017, at her residence in Murphysboro.

Gladys was born on November 19, 1920, in DeSoto, Illinois, to Daniel Logan Kimmel and Dora (Jacquot) Kimmel.

She had worked as a nurse's aide for ten years at the Jackson County Nursing Home in Murphysboro.

At Pate Chapel Church, she was in charge of the nursery and taught Sunday School, and she and her husband were youth leaders. She was an excellent cook! Gladys married Murray McLaughlin on June 28, 1941, in Murphysboro, and he preceded her in death on November 2, 1994.

She is survived by five sons Donald (Susan) McLaughlin of Murphysboro, Gary McLaughlin and Dennis McLaughlin, both of Coulterville, John (Charlotte) of Murphysboro, and Craig (Mary Ann) McLaughlin of Cypress;

four daughters Jeanne Goforth, Gloria Canaley, Diana (Ken) Harris, and Cheryl (Bill) Graff of Murphysboro;

one sister Mildred Ward of Murphysboro;

and four sisters in law Wilma Kimmel of Mt. Vernon, Susie Costello of O'Fallon, MO, Beulah McLaughlin and Peggy McLaughlin, both of Murphysboro.

She was preceded in death by one daughter and son in law Judy and Clarence Schorn; one grandchild and two great grandchildren in infancy; three brothers Howard Kimmel, Clyde Kimmel, and Ardell Kimmel; one brother in infancy Logan Kimmel; one sister Marie Shephard; her parents; three sister in laws Hyacinth Krawczyk, Aleatha Mifflin, and Ann Crisler; three brother in laws Frank McLaughlin, Fred McLaughlin and Cleo McLaughlin; and her parents in law Murray and Pearl McLaughlin.
