Obituary for Lela M. Pierson (Elmore)
Lela M. Pierson, 90, of Murphysboro, passed away at 10:20 a.m. Thursday, January 11, 2018, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Lela was born on December 9, 1927, in Murphysboro, to Leonard Elmore and Mary (Cripps) Elmore.
She was a homemaker and had worked at various places including at SIU-Carbondale in food service.
Mrs. Pierson had attended Mt. Carbon Christian Church in Murphysboro. She was a member of the V.F.W. Post # 7190 Ladies Auxiliary.
Lela married Clayton H. Pierson on February 26, 1945, in Murphysboro, and he preceded her in death on March 16, 2003.
Survivors include five children Lynn Bonner and her husband Ray Bonner of Frost Proof, FL, Lela Park of Las Vegas, Nevada, George C. Pierson and his wife Maryjo Pierson of Sandridge, Jerry Pierson and his wife Betty Pierson of Jackson, MO, and Roger Pierson of Murphysboro;
six grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren;
and one sister Viva Cripps of Murphysboro.
She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, and three half brothers Ray Varner, Charlie Varner and Woodrow Varner.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, January 14, 2018, at Pettett Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Olson officiating and visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
