Joseph L. Godar
Joseph L. Godar, 86, of Murphysboro, passed away at 9:50 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at the Shawnee Christian Nursing Home in Herrin.
Joseph was born on June 12, 1929, in Oak Park, Illinois, to Joseph L. Godar, Sr. and Eva (Lemay) Godar.
He served as a medic in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Joe was a researcher at the former American Can Company in Barrington, Illinois.
Mr. Godar was a member of the St. Andrew Catholic Church in Murphysboro and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 127, where he served on the Honor Guard.
He married Martha Etherton on March 29, 1986, in Wauconda, Illinois, and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons Mark Godar of Clarkston, Mich. and Curt Godar of Savanna, IL; one daughter Susan Lemay of Elgin;
two step daughters Sherry Braddy and her husband Mark Braddy of Mt. Vernon, IL and Debbie Parks and her husband Kevin Parks of Genoa City, Wis.;
ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren;
one brother Clifford Godar of Port Lucie, FL; and three sisters Edith Godar of Kirkland, WA, Mary Olsen of North Lake, IL, and Margaret Blaker of Lewiston, Idaho.
He was preceded in death by one son Scott Godar, two brothers, and four sisters.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2016, at St. Andrew Catholic Church with Father Bob Flannery and burial at St. Andrew Cemetery with military services conducted by the American Legion Paul Stout Post # 127.
