Obituary for Bill Lee Schoolcraft

Bill Lee  Schoolcraft
Bill Lee Schoolcraft, 74, of DeSoto, passed away at 3:39 a.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Bill was born on June 13, 1941, in Murphysboro, Illinois, to Billy Sunday Schoolcraft and Virginia (Rust) Schoolcraft.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War from 1961 to 1965.

He was the owner and operator of Schoolcraft Painting. He loved to go fishing and hunting.

Mr. Schoolcraft was a member of Christian Covenant Fellowship in Carterville, Illinois. He was an ordained minister in both Illinois and Mississippi.

Bill married JoAnn Schoolcraft on April 15, 1961, and she preceded him in death on February 3, 1997. He married Carole Robinson on July 31, 1998, in Carbondale, and she survives.

Other survivors include three children Brenda Jo Schoolcraft and Laura Jean Reams and her husband Ezra Reams, all of Carbondale, and David Wayne Schoolcraft and his wife Tammy Lee Schoolcraft, both of Elkville;

six grandchildren Christina Pratt, Cherrie Houghlan, Mark Schoolcraft, Nicholas Denning, Brandon Schoolcraft, and Raelyn Schoolcraft;

five great grandchildren Faith Schoolcraft, Alex Houghlan, Alivia Schoolcraft, Elijah Schoolcraft, and Noah Schoolcraft;

and two sisters Ann McMurphy of Makanda and Mary Peterman of Carbondale.

He was preceded in death by one sister Elaine Schoolcraft and his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 30, 2016, at Pettett Funeral Home with Brother Ralph Brandon officiating with burial at Tower Grove Cemetery, where military services will be conducted by the Paul Stout American Legion Post # 127. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the V.A. Medical Center at Marion.
