Obituary for Rudell Renay Whittington (Dunn)

Rudell Renay  Whittington (Dunn)
Prophetess Rudell Renay Whittington, 69, of Murphysboro, passed away at 6:20 p.m. Saturday, June 3, 2017, at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro.

Rudell was born on January 5, 1948, in Carbondale, to Fred T. Dunn and Clara (Short) Dunn.

She began her passion for working with children at Head Start and retired as a licensed Day Care Provider.

Mrs. Whittington was a very faithful member of the Lighthouse Church in Murphysboro. She was a prophetess and was very well known for her ministry. She especially concentrated on praying for the sick.

She enjoyed going shopping and cooking very much.

Rudell married Carl Whittington on August 9, 1966, in Murphysboro and he survives.

Other survivors include six children Carla Whittington of Murphysboro, Dee Ann Whittington of Rockford, Denise Whittington, Joshua Whittington, Kaprice Whittington, and Star Whittington, all of Murphysboro and her surrogate son Montreece Kindle;

eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren;

two sisters Janie Smith and her husband Frank Smith of West Memphis, Ark. and Freda Lewis of Decatur, IL;

five brothers Fred Dunn, Tommy Dunn, Pete Dunn, Gregory Dunn and John Dunn;

one brother-in-law Lawrence King and his wife Cathy King of Carbondale;

a host of nieces and nephews;

and very close friends of the family Pastor Judy Patterson and Brother Apostle Holmes, and many other friends.

She was preceded in death by one son infancy, one sister Jean King, one brother Bobby Dunn and her parents .

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Saturday, June 10, 2017, at the United Methodist Church in Murphysboro with Pastor Judy Patterson and Elder Lawrence King officiating with burial at Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at the church. Memorials may be made to the family. For more information, please visit www.pettettfuneralhome.com
